Does the Government Provide & Promote an Outdoor lifestyle?
This lesson will explore the health benefits that students can get from being outdoors through the physical activity and exercise they undertake. Students will identify the places they go to and investigate whether the HK Government promotes and provides us with enough facilities in order to lead an active outdoor lifestyle. Students will undertake a walk along Bowen Road where they will assess the exercise facilities the Government offers and also analyse the risks associated with using this equipment and going outdoors in general. Students will then explore the concept of risk in greater depth once back in the classroom and then assess from the research done throughout the lesson whether the HK Government needs to do more to encourage its citizens outdoors.
ACTIVITY: PLOT YOUR OUTDOOR EXERCISE
Students will explore some of the physical activities that they undertake outdoors and not these down on post-it notes. They will need to review the four areas below and then add this information to a blank map of Hong Kong.

ACTIVITY: DOES THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT DO ENOUGH TO PROMOTE AN OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE?
In groups students will explore one aspect of how the HK Government promotes and provides for an outdoor lifestyle for its citizens. Student groups will either explore Recreation Parks, Sports Facilities, Water Sports or Hiking. They must then create a short presentation that will be given to the other groups based around the key areas highlighted below.

Once students have developed their short presentation they must then present their finding to the other groups. Two students from each group will be rotate around the other groups and complete the Hong Kong Service Worksheet as they go. Once they have spoken to the three other groups they will report their findings back to other members of their team. The other two members of the team will act as presenters and discuss what they have found about their designated areas.
- A brief outline of the facilities and/or services that the HK Government provides.
- What types of physical activity can be undertaken?
- Are the physical health benefits promoted by the HK Government?
- Are there any risks associated with using these facilities? If so, what might these be?
- Make a comparison to facilities offered in another country. Are there ways that the HK Government come improve the facilities?

ACTIVITY: MEASURING RISK
What is the difference between a Hazard and a Risk? Students should share some of the hazards that they identified while on the Bowen Road walk in the morning.
Students should review the likelihood of these hazards leading to an injury and the types of things that might happen by completing a risk assessment table. They will also need to come up with a list of control measures to ensure that this does not happen and an emergency plan if something does go wrong. Students should work on this as a group and complete the Risk Assessment Worksheet.
Students should think about this activity in relation to their own route/destination that they are exploring with their group.
